Robert Johnson
Still life painting has a long and honored history. Robert A. Johnson is one of the more thoughtful still life painters. His treatment of opposites, such as light and dark or delicate and massive, sets up a dynamic interplay that excites the mind more than a simple decorative arrangement would. His compositions are formal, dignified, yet warmly human. He arranges them with a sensitive but light hand, so that the painting seems to breathe. He believes that the still life should have a dominant mood, a certain feeling that makes him want to paint. Like a long line of distinguished painters he studied at the Art Students League in New York. Of the early masters he is drawn to Velasquez, Rembrandt and Hals. Robert Johnson is a life member of the art Students League of New York. A signature Member, oil Painters of America and a Signature Member, Allied Artists(N. Y.) He was recently awarded the 2007 Oil Painters of America, Fine Art Connoisseur Magazine's Award Of Excellence for his painting, "Azaleas And Oranges".
