Robert Johnson Workshop

Robert Johnson will offer demonstrations and individual instruction focused on exploring principles of painting. The class will work from still lifes and figures. Observation and control of values, color and edges will be emphasized. The individual brush stroke will be stressed as a means to depict form, achieve expressive power, and maintain a painting’s freshness.
Robert Johnson received his training in painting and drawing at the Art Students League of New York as well as receiving individual instruction from the master painter Lajos Markos. He has taught figure drawing and anatomy at the Art Students league in New York. He has received numerous awards for his paintings including the First Prize for Still Life, “Artist Magazine” Annual Competition and the Top Award at the Salmagundi Club, national competition among others. He is the author of “On Becoming a Painter” published in 2001. .
